Food Storage

So lately I have been really into doing my food storage. In fact, I have even helped other women can and things like that. I really enjoy doing it. What is really exciting about it though, is that it has become my new calling at church. I was released from primary (sad day) and was made the ward provident living specialist. Really the relief society wants me to make sure people get their 72 hour kits done and their 3-month or 1 year supply of food done. To do this I have created a blog to keep my thoughts organized and make it accessible to everyone at church. Other people can look at it too! It is:

If you have any questions, ideas, concerns feel free to comment. I will do my best to research and find answers. I know many people put off doing their food storage saying its too overwhelming or what not, but I believe it is important. The church has been urging us for as long as I remember to do it and get it done. In fact the government for the past few years has even been encouraging people to put together a food storage. So if you haven't yet, DO IT! I would love yo help you along the way.

Time Warner Fibs, Gets Boot

For those of you interested, below is a follow-up to my email the other day about cancelling my cable with Time Warner. It was interesting enough that I thought I would share:

I called customer service and asked to have my cable cancelled, and of course the rep asked why I wanted to leave. I contemplated even bothering to tell him or just say something like "eh... personal reasons." But instead, I blurted it out that HBO was doing something offensive to me as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of LDS and I didn't want to do business with Time Warner any longer. The rep replied, "I know the show you are referring to and I want to let you know that Time Warner only owns a small investment in HBO and we are hardly affiliated with them at all." That didn't sit right with me, so while he was processing my cancellation request I went to timewarner.com, and sure enough, in the "About Us" section Time Warner talked about its wonderful divisions including HBO, AOL, etc. The page even included a list of awards HBO had recently won that Time Warner was proudly claiming on their behalf. So when the rep finished I called him on it. He didn't know how to respond so he put me on hold to talk to his manager. He came back and admitted that HBO was owned by Time Warner and he agreed to split the de-installation fee with me. How nice. I realized he was probably just saying to me what he was told to say to people like me, so I acknowledged that (which I think he appreciated, poor guy) and then thanked him for helping me.

In a way, this experience just validated to me that this isn't a company I want to do business. It also spoke to me that I should do what is in my power to not support companies like this who promote (and are proud to receive awards for) garbage that is directly opposed to the teachings of the restored Church of which I have a testimony.

Thanks for listening.

Lucy and the Plum

Lucy is eating solids and teething. So I decided to give her something that could multiple task. The plum I gave was the hardest one I have ever felt and she loved it. She was sick then too so if you listen closely to the video you can hear her breathing throw her stuffy nose. It was a great 20 minutes with her.

More Videos

Lucy likes to wake me up in the morning to her ruckus instead of crying.  It sounds like she is trying to break out of jail or something.

Lately I have been letting her watch baby einstein and she can't get enough of it.

The sound is pretty bad because it was really windy, but it is still funny to watch her with money!

This is a game Dave and I both like to play with her.  Normally she get really excited and tries to guess which side you will be at and tries to eat your face.

Fun Pictures

Here are just some fun pictures. I try to take some at least once a week. Lucy is just growing like crazy. She is starting to develop a personality and is definitely more fun! My favorite pictures are of her eating. She still loves to put her fingers in her mouth while it is full of food! She also has developed an affinity for paper. We were leaving costco and Dave had he extra cash in hand and she went crazy. She kept wanting to grab it and eat it.
